Silver

Silver

Silver light
& the
Windows with stories
All of their own
With reflected clouds
Drifting like dreams

Another shot from last Sunday's photo shoot. This was taken at Canary Wharf. It's a very new part of London. The whole place seems very futuristic with a new high tec train system that passed between great silver sky skyscrapers. I love the way the light hits the side of this building and blazed with silver light. More to come :-)

Hope everybody out there is enjoying the weekend. Yesterday went out to see a movie. I saw "War of the Worlds" and can't say I am impressed with it. I also got another travel book to read! This time it's a "Rough Guide to Andulacia" book. It has lots more information in it. Already it's proved useful to me. I have scratched off a place from my list of places to see ( a national park ) as it's quite dififcult to get to visit and also you are forced to go with a tour bus. I much prefer to make my own way :-)

Today It's another hot one here. No photo taking today, just chillin out and reading :-D "Marijose" and "Just Me" Gazpacho today!!! I am going to try some Tabasco and Lemon juice in this one...

Your version of the same shot is very atmospheric in great light. I've been visting the Docklands Development since it's inception in the late 1980s. Canary Wharf Tower was topped-out I think in 1990.

I return several times a year with my camera and there is always something new to see.

PERFECT VIRGO: I have been through the docklands on the DLR but never actually "visited" it. It's a great place for photos. I will certainly be returning!

Beautiful picture! Back during my life BK (before kids) when I had the time to do so, I took a photography class and the instructor had us take B&W pictures of a highrise nearby that has a lot of glass windows. He said that buildings like that are a great way to learn about B&W photography. This was in the days when we had to also learn to develop our own film (I am dating myself!).

Well you saved me the trouble of considering whether to see War of the Worlds. I don't care much for Tom Cruise, he seems to me to have joined the ranks of celebrities from another planet. Going to the movies in the US has become somewhat of a pain due to way too many movie trailers and commercials being shown before the movies. So it has to be something I really want to see, or otherwise I'm happy to wait and rent the DVD.

Enjoy the gazpacho! I have been wanting to make some this summer but I have already packed my food processor...currently in the process of moving to another house. Back to sorting and packing...

Very nice shot. Looks very surreal.

MARIJOSE: Hi, thanks for another interesting post! Good luck with your house moving! :-)

I did some photography at school, and we had to developed our own photographs. I really enjoyed that part. It all seems very esoteric. There is a lot of "art" in that because you can change the finished photo result quite considerably. Hey, if you have any advice regarding photography please feel free to post it here. Always eager to learn...

I don't care for Tom Cruise either, and he just played his usual "cocky maverick" character that he plays in just about every movie with his 2 facial expressions! Unfortunately, they do the same here with the movies. Now you have to sit through about 20 minutes of trailers and advertisements.

Thanks, Gazpacho sitting in the fridge getting cold as I type you this. I will probably post up a photo of it before I eat it's yummy goodness :-D

::A:: Thanks, I like the way the sun washes over the building so brightly and you can see the clouds. I have one in colour also, but I like this version.

lovely this.
yeah same chilling out sunday here.....BBQ n stella instead:)
enjoy
ps:btw, loved ur owl shots..:)

Martin said...

UBERMENSCH: BBQ & Stella? As much as I like a good gazpacho, I would much rather have BBQ and Stella! Room for one more at your place? Save me a burger! :-D

And thank you!!! :-)

Glad you liked the shot. I was lucky to get the sun just right on the building that day! I remember the one with the skewed angle you took in the docklands, that was great too!

And thanks also about the owls. Glad that you liked those also. The owl still gives me a smile to think about it and see the photo. I was so entranced and snapping away!

surreal! it looks like something from a movie set. i love it!

by the way, are your photos uploaded somewhere where we can browse them? i tried that photoblogs link at the right but didn't get too far. (also on dial-up connection for the weekend: verrrry sloooooooow.)

i hope the gazpacho lives up to your expectations. just finished doing a couple of hours of work (real work) and am now about to put my feet up and continue with the new harry potter book. so far so good, but i really wish i had reread the previous one before i dove into this one.

hope your chillin' weekend was pleasant.

Just Me Glad you liked ii so much, and thank you :-)

As regarding uploading the photos. Yeah, I can do that. I can get a flicker account and load them up there and then place a link here? I'm not sure how flicker works :-) So if you or anybody can let me know will upload the photos for easy browsing.

Gazpacho very good! I liked the lemon and Tabasco in it. yuuuum. Nice and cool. I had it for lunch. Right now am cooking lamb meat loaf with rosemary and redcurrant. Hopefully dinner is good also :-)

My weekend is good and relaxing. Hope yours is good too :-)

Thanks Martin, I would get a lot more packing done if I didn't take so many breaks. :P I am going to get movers to pack us up and move the big pieces at the end, though. Luckily we have several weeks during which to move things gradually to the other house.

I'm afraid I don't have anything really insightful to say regarding photography. The instructor had us take pictures of a building made of chrome and glass at different times of they day so we would learn about the effects of light on the subject. Inevitably, the better the pictures the more likely I was to scratch the negatives inadvertently.

Yes, guilty as charged! But I am finding all kinds of interesting things while sorting and packing. Just found a small box made of tin that a good friend from Santa Fe, New Mexico sent me several years ago (she sends the coolest gifts ever from Santa Fe, period). I had been looking for it for a while and there it was safely tucked away in a drawer. Then I got to wondering why I did not come across Spanish tin in Spain and found the following interesting site: http://www.spanishcolonial.org/tin.shtml . Who knew packing could be educational? But I digress... Anyway, I met my packing goal for today and it's not even dark yet! Not bad for a procrastinator.

So not how I think of London. I like silver.

Very impressive picture :), I really like it and I love this
"Silver light

All of their own

I always get stuck thinking about what goes on inside when I catch a glimpse through someone's window. I wonder what they are eating, or if they bought that painting or was it a gift, do they have kids are they happy? I don't know why but I can't help but think what kind of life is lived in there?

Anonymous said...

LOL, yes I'm definitely easily distracted. Sometimes it's a wonder anything gets done.

Just Me said...

ronny, i love taking a walk around my neighbourhood at night when you catch glimpses of other people's lives through their lit windows. they always look so cozy in the lamplight.

Nice photo. I like the black & white. I need to get more into taking photos w/black & white. Makes for a very different persepective.

Just Me, I like the holidays because everyone opens their front curtains to display their trees but you get a good look at their decor and sometimes a fire, it is all very cozy. And makes you feel just a bit closer to your nieghbors even if you've never met them.

Breath-taking photo! I still haven;t get to watch the War of the World. heard the ending is bit disappointing :P

Martin said...

PECOS BLUE: Hi :-)

London is a place of many strange contrasts. The docklands area where this was taken is very different to the rest of London. Then Central London ( the bit you see in movies with all the grand old buildings ) and what you probably think of as London is actually quite small ( about 1 mile across ) and is nothing like the rest of London. London sprawls for about 30 + miles in each direction and called greater London.

Glad you like Silver :-)

RONNY: Thank you :-)

And I am the same way too! This is what I was meaning by "windows with dreams of their own" I always wonder what is going beyond the window.

HEATHER: Got your email and will reply soon! Thanks :-)

LUZ: Yeah, it does make a different perspective. I had one of this building in colour and it's just not the same. I think the black and white really makes the photo because the silver and the light really shines here. I need to get out and take more black and white too. I'm experimenting :-)

ACRIX: Thanks! Glad you liked the photo! War of the World's ending is really rather silly. :-D

.:A:. - It certainly takes on a whole new beauty in black and white :-)

JENNIE: - Only a bit of a voyeur? ;-) And thank you. Happy you found the silver beautiful.

UBERMENSCH: - haha might take you up on that! BBQ rules!

Cool, yeah dig it out and post it up please. Would be good to see it. It was a strange coincidence that I chanced across Virgo's blog and found he had posted up photos of the area too!

ANGEL: - Sorry about the owl... that's gone now... :-)

So you have visited Canary Wharf?! I'm always amazed at what a small place the world has become.

Yeah, it's so cool there isn't it? It's VERY futuristic. Exactly as you say, it's like another world full of spaceships and marvels of the future!

Glad you liked :-) There is more to come...

Reminds me of a woman, standing proud, waiting for her secret windows to be opened and discovered. She is old, with cloudy white hair, and she still waits...

Oops, this is still on the wavelength of something I have been contemplating.

Your words go well with the picture, as always.

Martin said...

THOUGHTS: Thanks for your thoughts! :-D Yes, that area of London is great for shots. As you say, there are so many different things to take photos of.

I will reply to your question on your blog as requested :-)

MERMAID: - Wondering words from you, as always. What an interesting interpretation! I love it. I look forward to you, if you do, exploring that idea you had.

Great shot! Great title! That might go well with my poem "Skyscraper," don't you think?

I like this one - and it's really enhanced by being in black & white!

Oh, and I ate gazpacho today :D

Cristina said...

I forgot: I went to see War of the Worlds too and it left me feeliong quite indifferent. I didn't really like it and Tom Cruise overacted his part so much. Ugh.

Martin said...

ANON: - Thanks for the comment! I don't know about the skyscraper poem. Unfortunately I missed that one.

CRISTINA: YUM GAZPACHO! Will be able to have some in Spain soon... :-D

I agree with you on Tom Cruise. I don't like him either. He can't act and he is a pompous ass :D

so just how big is this TBR pile? mine keeps ever expanding? i don't think i'll ever conquer it. ah well....life is a journey, not a destination....always something to look forward to.

Martin said...

JUST ME: I defiantly agree with "Life is a journey and not a destination" :-)

My TBR pile is 72 books and rising! I am being stricter with my self * a bit * :-D Mainly because I am saving for my holiday and if I buy any more books then I will be buried under them! Although did get another book from Amazon yesterday... Couldn't resist... you know how it is? :-D

How big is your TBR pile? :-)

- Martin

Just Me said...

Not nearly as large as yours! Holy smokes! I rarely purchase books. We have a wonderful local library & every so often I go on-line, search all sorts of titles, authors & put books I want to read on hold. Then what usually happens is that 3 or 4 are available at the same time. Currently beside my bed are With No One as Witness by Elizabeth George, Monday Mourning by Kathy Reichs and French Women Don't Get Fat. I started the Elizabeth George novel last night: she's one of my favourite authors. It's due back within the week so I better get busy!

And, oh, yes, I still need to continue reading Path of the Human Being

So, what sort of titles are on your TBR list?

Martin said...

JUST ME: I have a very eclectic taste in all things, and books are no exception to the rule.

I have every kind of book! I'm sitting here trying to categorise the kings of books they are but it's difficult.

I have all kinds of books, fantasy, sf, historical, chick lit, mystery, thriller, mystical, humorous, magical realism, post modern, poetry, and non-fiction. :-)

If you are interested I can try to compile a list of what I have on my shelf right now.

At the moment I am reading Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susana Clarke which I am enjoying very much :-)

Just Me said...

martin: no need to compile a list!!! i found the "jonathan strange..." book in the library catalog & placed a hold on it. it's always interesting to read something that someone else has read and "compare notes". i am sure it will be awhile before it lands in my hands.
